You hold the only key
A backup should protect your data without giving someone else access to it.
UniLedger encrypts backups before they leave your device. They can be stored on another device you control, but the contents remain unreadable without your encryption key.
Encryption happens before the backup leaves
Your financial data isn’t sent somewhere first and encrypted later.
The backup is protected on your device before it is transferred, so the other device receives encrypted data rather than a readable copy of your finances.
Only you can unlock it
UniLedger does not keep a separate key that can be used to open your backup.
That means access to the backup stays with you. If someone obtains the backup file without the key, they should not be able to read your financial records.
Privacy without giving up recovery
Keeping financial data private shouldn’t mean having no backup at all.
You can keep recoverable copies on your other devices while still preventing those copies from becoming another place where your finances sit exposed.
Control also means responsibility
Because only you hold the key, UniLedger cannot recover an encrypted backup if the key and all recoverable copies of your data are lost.
That trade-off is deliberate: there is no hidden master key waiting somewhere on our servers.
